Operating System

Operating system (OS) are set of programs which handle hardware and performs user’s requests. It interacts with hardware and complete the meaning of computer or any other computing device. Operating system is a must-to-have and main system software for any computing device which runs other application software. It is designed to run other programs on the computer.

Operating system is known as the backbone of a computer, which manages both hardware and software resources. It is responsible for everything from the control and allocation of memory for programs to taking input from external devices (like keyboard, mouse, etc) and transmitting output to computer displays.

In the beginning of computer era, there were single-process and single-user operating systems (like DOS and Unix) but now, many things have changed in computing technology. Now, we have operating systems that can handle multiple processes and being executed by different users. Today, multi-tasking elegant operating systems are in use like MS Windows, Linux, Mac OS, etc.

Linux operating systems are holding their position now-a-days. Linux OSs are free and easy-to-use operating systems build for complete freedom in software computing. Linux OSs come in different flavours for different purposes, officially known as Linux distributions. Different Linux distributions have different graphics appeal, configuration settings and package manager, etc. Linux is becoming more user-friendly due to its rich and helpful community, developing it. Linux operating systems (though some are developed by single-person) are truly by the people and for the people operating systems.
